Bathroom renovation quote checklist
A full bathroom renovation. What does the price cover?
Read protection, removal, plumbing, waterproofing, tiles and fixtures separately. For each, check what is included, what costs extra and who handles it—then compare the total.
Check eight work packagesCopy the twelve questionsThis guide helps you read a quote. It does not assess waterproofing performance or workmanship.

Work packages
Find the work you need to check.
Open any item that is unclear in your quote. Ask for the answers in a revised quotation or attachment, with a date and version.
Not stated does not mean excluded, or prove that a contractor has done anything wrong.
Protection and accessRooms, shared areas and site access
List areas to protect, dust controls, building permissions, water-shutoff notices and carrying arrangements. Include building rules, working hours and access restrictions in the schedule.
Removal and disposalWhat comes out, and how far removal goes
Separate tiles, ceilings, fixtures, old waterproofing and pipework. State removal boundaries, disposal quantities or trips, carrying arrangements, and how work beyond that scope will be priced.
Plumbing and electricalWhat stays, what is replaced or moved
Match hot and cold water, drainage, wiring, sockets and equipment circuits to locations, quantities, material specifications and pricing units. Identify who cuts and repairs channels in walls or floors.
Base preparationRepairs, drainage positions and floor levels
Ask for the extent and quantities of levelling, base preparation and repairs. Record how drainage direction, outlet positions and threshold levels will be agreed. Appropriate professionals should determine the method for the site.
WaterproofingAreas, heights, materials and proposed method
Identify floors, walls, thresholds, corners and pipe penetrations. Specify areas, heights, material brands and models, layers and local reinforcement. Include drying time, protection during later work and handover responsibilities—not just “waterproofing included”.
Testing and recordsThe method, the record and any correction
An on-site professional should decide whether a water test is needed and which method is suitable. If planned, record duration, water level, checks below or next door, results, correction and rechecking responsibilities. Allow for waiting time in the schedule.
Tiles and fixturesMaterials, fittings, installation and finishing
Identify brands, models, quantities and suppliers for tiles, grout, ceilings, toilets, basins, taps, cabinets and hardware. Check tile layout, drilling, fittings, sealant, finishing and final cleaning separately.
Acceptance and warrantyCompletion checks, corrections and handover
Agree how drainage, leak-related items, tiling, finishes and fixture operation will be checked. Link outstanding work and handover records to the agreed final-payment conditions. Separate waterproofing, workmanship and product warranties by scope, duration, start date, exclusions and contact.
Buying your own fixtures? Check the installation too.
A toilet or basin you supply still needs a clear handover. Identify each item by name and model, then agree these four responsibilities.
Before ordering
Who checks dimensions, connections and site compatibility? Who handles an unsuitable item, returns and the cost?
On delivery
Who receives, carries and stores it? Who follows up on missing parts, damage or the wrong model?
At installation
Which fittings, drilling, pipe connections and finishing does the installation price cover? Who supplies extra parts?
At handover
Who checks operation? Who handles product and installation warranties, and where does each responsibility end?
More questions about the quote?
What is missing from “bathroom waterproofing included”?
Ask for locations, areas, wall heights, material brands and models, proposed layers, and details for corners and pipe penetrations. Add testing, protection during later work and warranty arrangements. These are details for the installer to specify, not a site specification chosen by this guide.
How long must a water test last to pass?
This guide does not set a universal duration or pass standard. An on-site professional should confirm whether a test is needed, the method and how to interpret it. The quote or attachment should record the agreed method, duration, responsible person, results and any correction arrangements.
Can I compare two “full renovation” totals directly?
Check the scope first. Pipe replacement, installation of owner-supplied fixtures, disposal and finishing may be covered differently. List those differences before comparing totals, and ask about anything not stated.
Can SII confirm workmanship or waterproofing performance?
No. Standard Integrity Institute (SII) reviews the quotation and related documents you provide. It does not rate contractors or carry out site surveys, construction supervision, material testing or quality certification. Clear documentation does not guarantee the construction outcome.
