Carpentry and cabinet quote checklist

“Cabinetry included.”Which cabinets, exactly?

Ask for dimensions, materials, hardware and installation scope for each cabinet before comparing totals. Confirm that what is shown in the drawings—and what you discussed—is included in the price.

What is missing from your quote?

Select anything that is unclear. We will turn your selection into a message below. This is a follow-up list, not a score or a finding about the work.

Items I need to clarify

Identify each cabinet’s location, width, height, depth and quantity. State the pricing unit and calculation, whether by length, area or complete unit, and how size changes affect the price.

Specify the cabinet body, back, shelves and doors separately: material, thickness and finish. A brand name alone is not enough. Record how substitute products will be agreed.

List brands, models, quantities and functions for hinges, runners, handles and accessories. Put soft-close, push-to-open and any agreed load requirements in writing.

Separate flat, shaped and glass doors. Match quantities, opening directions, handles and the treatment of gaps to the drawings, and identify options priced separately.

An exterior drawing may not show what is inside. Match drawer counts, internal dimensions, drawer-bottom materials and shelf positions to both the drawings and the price.

Record the areas to finish, colour code, sheen and texture. Identify the sample used for approval and who handles touch-ups, installation damage or colour differences.

Describe junctions with walls, ceilings, floors and skirting. Assign filler panels, sealing and wall repairs to the appropriate trade instead of leaving the boundary unclear.

Check protection, carrying, installation, old-cabinet removal and disposal separately. Do not assume sockets, lighting, glass, mirrors or pipe relocation are included in the carpentry price.

Send the questions. Get the details in writing.

Copy the message and add cabinet names or quote page numbers. After the reply, check that the quote, drawings and material schedule all reflect the same revision.

Your selections only build this message. They are not saved or submitted, and refreshing the page clears them.

Make the quote, drawings and samples agree.

If the quote says “TV cabinet”, the drawing shows three drawers and the material schedule omits the back panel, there are still details to clarify.

  1. Quotation

Quantity, pricing unit, cost and exclusions for each cabinet.

  2. Drawings

The matching cabinet ID, location, dimensions, doors, drawers and revision.

  3. Materials and samples

Which panels, hardware, colours and approved samples apply to each part.

Comparing two quotes? Match the scope first

A few common questions

Is a lump-sum carpentry price always a problem?

No. What matters is which cabinets, dimensions, materials, hardware and installation work the sum includes. A lump sum can present the total if matching details and drawings are attached. If those details are missing, ask for them.

Final measurements come later. How do I check the price now?

Record provisional dimensions, the drawing revision and pricing method. Agree who will remeasure, when dimensions will be confirmed, and how increases or reductions change the price. “Subject to site measurements” alone does not explain the adjustment.

Is a board or hardware brand enough?

You also need the product specification. Match boards to the part, material type, thickness and finish; list hardware models, quantities and agreed functions. If substitutes may be used, agree how they will be confirmed before replacement.

Can SII assess workmanship or tell me if the price is fair?

SII reviews the quotation and related documents you provide for missing, unclear or inconsistent information. It does not rate contractors or replace site measurements, material-suitability decisions, workmanship assessment, market valuation or legal advice.
